Big Game Hunting on the Mescalero Apache Reservation

The Mescalero
Apache Reservation is also the home of the Mescalero Big Game Hunting. Within
the confines of this sub-alpine and valley terrain, hunters experience the pride
of hunting some of the finest bull elk, cow elk, bear and turkey in North
America.
At the very center of Mescalero Big Game Hunting is its trophy elk hunting,
which recently boasted two 400-class bulls, putting them in world-class ranking
for big game hunts. This distinction comes as a direct result of the Tribe’s
thirty year commitment to building strong and healthy herds after the Mescalero
Apache Tribe reintroduced 162 Rocky Mountain Elk to the region in 1964. The
native Merriam Elk were tragically driven to extinction during the early 1900s,
prior to the Mescalero taking occupancy of the reservation. Today, however, the
Tribe’s current elk herd number over 4,200 head with seventy-two percent of
the cows giving birth each year, ensuring the herds and the hunts will continue
to be successful for years to come. As a proud partner with exclusive sponsor
Cabela’s, Mescalero Big Game Hunts offers an unparalleled trophy elk hunting
experience with a hunter success rate of ninety-seven percent and an average Elk
score of 349 and several bulls harvested over 400.

The sporting clay range which is located at the hunt lodge at Inn of the
Mountain Gods is open year-round,weather permitting, except during scheduled
hunts. The cost is $25.00 for 50 targets, and the cost is $50.00 for a full
rental which includes eye and ear protection, a vest, a gun and 50 shells.
